How to Apply

Follow these easy steps:

1. Complete your NC Residency Determination forms first

Complete the RDS (Residency Determination Service) first to start your Admissions process. The Application for Admission cannot be submitted without first obtaining your RCN (Residency Certification Number).

Visit the RDS website and click on the “Initial Consideration” tab for a list of documents you may need to provide throughout the RDS process.

2. Choose your career path / choose your program of study

If you are undecided about career goals, speak with a Student Services Admissions Counselor by calling (828) 694-1800 or 883-2520 or make an appointment to talk with a career counselor in the NCWorks Career Center by calling (828) 694-1755 or 883-2550.

3. Apply online   

Complete an online Blue Ridge Community College Application. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email that provides you with detailed steps on how to proceed with your Admissions process including Orientation, Financial Aid, and Registration Dates and Times.

4. Request official transcripts
  • High School Diploma
  • High School Equivalency/Adult High School
  • College Transcripts (if applicable)

Official transcripts should be sent directly to the address listed below. BRCC cannot accept unofficial or unsealed copies from applicant.

5. Take the Pre-Enrollment Placement Test

Meet with an Admissions Counselor to determine your placement testing needs and sign up for a testing session.

6. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at

Complete the FAFSA for the academic year for which you plan to attend. (e.g.2020-21 FAFSA for Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Summer 2021) The College’s Federal School Code is 009684. File your FAFSA at least four weeks prior to the payment deadline to allow ample time for processing. You will receive a letter and/or email from Blue Ridge within 1-2 weeks updating your status. Likewise, you can also track your Financial Aid status in your myBlueRidge account.
