Adult Basic & Secondary Education

Are you a high school graduate who needs to improve your academic skills? Are you an individual seeking to obtain your high school equivalency diploma? If so, Blue Ridge Community College has a pathway that is right for you!

The Adult Basic & Secondary Education (ABSE) program provides educational opportunity for anyone who needs to improve their reading, writing, or math skills. Classes are offered at no cost during the day and evening at the Henderson and Transylvania campuses. If you prefer to work at your own pace on the computer from the convenience of your home, distance education courses are offered in all subject areas and at all levels.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) offers structured, foundational classes for students with academic skills below the high school level. Learning modules run every four weeks with additional academic support provided through the College and Career Readiness Center.

Adult Secondary Education (ASE) offers a more individualized approach for students who are already at the high school level academically but who need to improve their skills before taking the high school equivalency exam (HSE) or moving on to college or training programs. ASE offers a FastTrack option with writing and math refresher workshops for learners who are ready to begin the HSE testing process.

College and Career Readiness Center
The College & Career Readiness Center (CCRC) is designed to support the individualized needs of all learners. Students may utilize the center for additional academic support and instruction, career exploration, resume writing, workplace readiness workshops, or to improve their computer skills.
