Student Scholarships

 

Henderson County/Transylvania County NCWorks partners with Blue Ridge Community College and other area businesses and organizations to offer financial aid for students enrolled in qualifying training programs.

 

Workforce Investment Act Adult and Dislocated Worker Programs
Grant Term: July 1 to June 30
Eligibility: Dislocated workers, unemployed, and underemployed adults
Eligible Programs:  Curriculum and continuing education programs that are approved by Mountain Area Workforce Development Board
Amount: $6,000 for long-term training programs ($3,000 per year for two years); $800 for short-term training programs; typically covers tuition/registration and textbook.
Purpose: Provide short-term and long-term training to increase employability for qualifying students

Steps to Workforce Investment Act ("WIA") Funding for Training

 

Project Skill Up
Grant Term: January to December
Eligibility: Residents of Transylvania or Henderson County affected by economic conditions of the area and/or the decline of the tobacco industry.
Eligible Programs: Courses leading to a credential/certificate
Amount: Up to $500
Purpose: Provide short-term training to increase employability for qualifying students

North Carolina State Employees’ Credit Union Scholarships
Grant Term: Fall Semester and Spring Semester (5 awarded each Spring)   
Eligibility: Unemployed, underemployed, or veteran
Eligible Programs: Continuing education courses that provide a certificate/credential. Basic Law Enforcement and some curriculum courses are considered
Amount: $750
Purpose: Provide short-term training to increase employability for qualifying students.

Golden Leaf Scholarships
Grant Term: July 1 to June 30
Eligibility: Resident of Transylvania County who meets income guidelines
Eligible Programs: Continuing education courses leading to a credential/certificate
Amount: Determined by committee; up to $250
Purpose: Financial assistance
Location:  Application information available at NCWorks Centers at Blue Ridge Community College

 

Continuing Education Scholarships
Grant Term: On-going; determinations made first Monday of each month by campus committee
Eligibility: Continuing education students who demonstrate financial need
Eligible Programs: Continuing education courses
Amount: Determined by committee; typically registration and fees
Purpose: Financial assistance provided by BRCC Educational Foundation
