Surgical Technology

What it is about
The Surgical Technology curriculum prepares individuals to assist in the care of the surgical patient in the operating room and to function as a member of the surgical team.

Courses you will take
Students will apply theoretical knowledge to the care of patients undergoing surgery and develop skills necessary to prepare supplies, equipment, and instruments; maintain aseptic conditions; prepare patients for surgery; and assist surgeons during operations.

The Surgical Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), 25400 US Highway 19 North, Suite 158, Clearwater, FL 33763; Phone: 727-210-2350; Fax: 727-210-2354; by the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA), 6 West Dry Creek Circle, Suite 110, Littleton, CO 80120; Phone: 303-694-9262; Fax: 303-741-3655; Graduates will take the National Certification Examination administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within thirty (30) days of completion. Employment opportunities include labor/delivery/emergency departments, inpatient/outpatient surgery centers, dialysis units/facilities, physician offices, and central supply processing units.

Program Outcomes
CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited programs are required to meet outcome benchmarks each year.

Outcomes include but are not limited to:
OAE (outcomes assessment exam): NBSTSA (The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam
